Thai Star Restaurant – Part 2

So, I was craving for real asian food. And where I live and work, there is hardly any, other than this – Thai Star Restaurant. I introduced this place to 2 other collegues recently. They loved it.

We ordered deep fried sea bass in sweet and sour sauce, beancurd in thai style garlic and basil sauce, pad thai noodles, and thai fried rice. You must be wondering why we did not order any curry dishes. Well one of my collegue wasnt feeling too well, so we only had mild dishes. And they were doing a promotion for sticky rice with mangoes at that time, so I ordered one for all to share! Check out the pics.

Bill came up to £45. £15pp. Not cheap at all. But had a good meal.

This restaurant is by the harbour, in torquay town centre. Near sea spray restaurant, and adjacent to the recreational centre.

Chocolate Chip Chinois & Brioche Rolls

DSC02464

So I wanted to be healthy, I started having breakfast every morning before work. But I knew I wasn’t used to waking up early, taking my own sweet time, enjoy breakfast etc. So obviously for people like me, I need quick and easy breakfast. Guess what I had? Nothing too exciting actually.. I bought these from tesco last week… I just grab 2 each day, and have it on my way to work! So convenient, and it is quite delicious too!

Magic Bowl – Part 2

My friend and I went to magic bowl again the other day, before going for Toy Story 3 3D movie.
The Malaysian boss there must be so fedup of seeing the same face again :P haha.. Even if I have to say this again, this restaurant food rox! Ok cut the crap, what did we have this time??

DSC02353

For starters, the aunty recommended the barbecued pork ribs..She said the sauce they used are similar to the CHAR SIU sauce back home.. so anything like char siu, Id say yes! Who doesn’t like Char siu??

For Main, I had tom yum seafood bee hoon, that soup was quite nice, but I thought it wasn’t spicy enough.. I told the aunty about it, she said next time can just tell her how spicy I want it! So nice right? My friend had fried crispy noodles with chicken, served with seasonal vegetables in sauce. I thought the crispy noodles was really delicious.

Chicken Porridge

How long did you think I spent on preparing this bowl of porridge??? 2 hours? 5? Yes. 5 minutes! Lol… it was instant porridge! It does look like a properly cooked porridge doesn’t it?

DSC02432

I love the instant porridge, they all taste so good, and the texture feels as though it has been prepared for hours too.. It is so easy, just add water and remove everything into a saucepan, bring to boil, and simmer for few minutes, then it’s ready to be served.

I added some sesame oil, pepper, and fried shallots to taste. Its yummy and quick!

Co-op pasty

So guess what I had for lunch today? A pasty! Actually 2. Haha.. Co-op supermarket came up with their own pasty, very nicely packed in a paper boxed.

DSC02434

I guess the packaging made it more expensive. It costs £1, it is definately overpriced, because the pasty is so tiny. I needed 2 to fulfil my tummy’s needs. Hehe.. I had a steak pasty and a chicken and mushroom pasty. They tasted alright, but they were too oily. I probably wouldn’t by them anymore.

Panang Curry Chicken

After I tried the Thai panang chicken at one of the thai restaurants in town, I fell in love with it. So I thought maybe if I can get the panang paste, I can cook it too!

  DSC02333   DSC02307

Im so lucky, I found the paste in the recently opened thai shop, 1 minute away from my work place. All I needed was some onions, chicken, and coconut milk. I also added some prawns to bulk it up, so I can keep for the next day. Save me from cooking again eh.

I also had mixed vege in oyster sauce, and sprinkled some shallots to taste. The meal was yum! It was after such a long time since I last cooked! I wish I have the energy and time to cook again!

Toy Story 3 and Despicable Me 2010

Do you eat your dinner on a proper dining table?? Or are you like me and most of us who enjoy eating in front of the screen??

I normally watch TVB and Movies on my laptop whilst I have my dinner or lunch. But If you’re planning to watch Toy Story 3 or Despicable Me, you have to watch it in the cinema!! It is definately better, especially if you are going for a 3D show.. I havn’t watched Despicable Me, but I will wait until I visit home in August, then I will watch it in the cinema!! I hope there is a 3D version for it, would be soo good! The high rating and trailer looked quite promising!

Kim Chinese & Oriental Food Store in Torquay town centre

Are you looking for a Chinese store in Torquay?? I am so glad I found this store in Torquay; I thought I will never be able to buy Chinese goods anymore!! This store is situated next to the Indian buffet place on the high street of Torquay, right opposite KFC.

In fact, there is another Thai store that has recently opened in the precinct, St Marychurch, Torquay. Both these store sells oriental instant noodles, sauces, frozen fish and meat balls, snacks, Rock sugar!! Heh.. Actually I didn’t know about this newly opened store, until I visited Magic Bowl restaurant in Paignton, the Malaysian owner actually told me that a friend of hers recently opened an asian store in Torquay!!

So yesterday, Before I head back home from hunting my diary, I also stopped by Kim Chinese & Oriental Food Store to stock up on my Chinese goods, especially my noodles! They were running out.. practically all gone!! Heh..

Check out what I bought.. Not a great deal.. But enough to last me for awhile, since I don’t fancy instant noodle as much as I used to.. I also bought some instant porridge to try.. and Banana Chips! My favourite snack at home.. they were not as good as Malaysian ones, but good enough for now.

Thai Star Restaurant

Do you know any great Thai Restaurants in Torquay?? If you don’t, I suggest you try Thai Star Restaurant!! The food is very good, and priced reasonably, service is above average. I’v been here several times now, and I’m still very pleased with their food and service. I genuinely think if you are good, customers will always go back ;) Don’t you think??

For the 2 of us, we ordered Panang – Chicken in their famous creamy coconut curry with peppers and kaffir lime leaves, £6.95, and Pla sam rod – Deep fried whole sea bass topped with thai style chilli sauce, £12.50. We also ordered 3 bowls of rice!! Aren’t we pigs! I must say the garlic rice is yummy-licious!! So much flavour in them, however it is slightly oily. Thus we ordered a steamed rice to balance it back. The garlic rice is so good that I can have another bowl now, even on it’s own! Thinking about it makes me hungry again :D

They also have mango and sticky rice topped with coconut sauce.. I really wanted to try that!! Unfortunately we were too full to go for desserts, well let me correct myself, we were too skinned to spend anymore, until we earn a pharmacist pay, we will be back for more ;)
